Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 2
It’s January 2 and business as usual in the racing world for the New Year ahead with five two year-old trials run at Rosehill on Wednesday morning with winners including the full brother to Press Statement, whose first yearlings will be presented at the Magic Millions next week.

Antonio Padre has big shoes to fill as a full brother to dual G1 winner and sire Press StatementChampion trainer Chris Waller has won Group I races with both Press Statement and his half-brother Pressday and will be hoping to do the same with the latest offspring of terrific producer Kaaptive Empress.

Antonio Padre was retained to race by his breeders and looks very similar to Press Statement, who won both the Group I BRC JJ Atkins Stakes at two and then MRC Caulfield Guineas at three .

He improved sharply at his second trial, showing good pace for Tommy Berry to lead easily and was held together all the way down the straight with Savabeel colt Savoury finishing off well to finish a head behind him in the 900 metre heat.

They clocked 54.74 seconds which was the quickest heat won by a colt.

By the much missed Yarraman Park sire Hinchinbrook, Antonio Padre is the 11thfoal from Kaaptive Empress.

Egyptian Missile as a yearlingThe fastest filly running 45.68 seconds was Egyptian Missile, a half-sister by Smart Missile to brilliant Group III winner Egyptian Symbol from Group I winner Our Egyptian Raine.

Trained by Bjorn Baker, who also trained Egyptian Symbol, Egyptian Missile was a $240,000 Magic Millions purchase for her trainer from the Cressfield draft.

Other winners were : Amercement (Lonhro), Deep Chill (Wandjina) and North (Deep Field).
