First Season Sires – Vancouver

Tara Madgwick - Monday December 31
The performance of first season sires at the Magic Millions is judgement day for many studs, you can market and promote and spin all you want but at the end of the day it comes down to type and if a sire throws appealing yearlings he'll sell well – whether they can run at this point is the big unknown, we find that out in 12 months time!.

Coolmore have already achieved success in punting on a Golden Slipper winner with Pierro now one of the very best young stallions in the country, so all eyes will be on Vancouver, who has 34 entries minus withdrawals.

He is the first Australian bred son of Darley's hugely successful shuttle sire Medaglia D'Oro (USA) to go to stud and comes from a super successful Aussie female family being a grand-son of star filly Skating.

Medaglia D'Oro has tasted success as a sire of sires in the US notably through his high class son Violence, the leading second crop sire in North America for 2019. He stands at Hill 'n' Dale Farm at a fee of $US40,000 in 2019.

Vancouver has a very similar profile to Violence as both were Group I winning juveniles that retired very lightly raced, Violence had four starts for three wins, Vancouver five starts for four wins.

If Vancouver can replicate his success, he's a winner!

Vancouver was sold at Magic Millions as a yearling in 2014 fetching $185,000 and below is his yearling image.
