Brad Waters - Tuesday July 25

Racenet's readers were keen to debate the potential of smart galloper Comin' Through after his trial effort at Randwick on Monday so we decided to get the thoughts of the man that was on his back in the hit-out.

Michael Walker travelled to Sydney to ride the colt, who stepped out in the same heat as champion mare Winx, and the Melbourne-based jockey said the trip was worthwhile.

Comin' Through was on the pace throughout before finishing a narrow second to Diamond Tathagata in the 900m trial but the half-brother to multiple Group I winner Criterion pleased him with his effort.

"He had the blinkers on and he really travelled well," Walker said of the son of Fastnet Rock.

"He was sharp and finished off the trial well but that was only his first trial and he'll just get better."

Walker combined with Comin' Through to win the Group III Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at the three-year-old's third start but the horse ran soundly without winning in his first three autumn runs before struggling in the Group III Rosehill Guineas (2000m) in March.

The jockey, who only recently returned to racing himself after back and hip surgery, said the Epsom Handicap (1600m) in October looked a possible target for Comin' Through.

"He has ticked the first box with the way he trialled yesterday," Walker said.

"I'll go to Sydney and trial him on the eighth (of August) and then he runs first-up on the 19th (of August).

"It fits in well with my Melbourne commitments but I'm thankful for the opportunity to be the main rider for (Comin' Through's owner) Sir Owen Glenn.

"He's got so many well-bred horses coming along as well as Comin' Through."
