First Winner For The Wow Signal

Mark Smith - Sunday December 16

The Chris Munce-trained Wowsers made a winning career debut in a 1000 metre maiden at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday to credit his sire ill-fated sire The Wow Signal (IRE) with his first winner.

Ridden by Michael Hellyer, Wowsers skipped over the heavy track to lead all the way in defeating Concealed Dynamite (Rothesay) by two and a quarter lengths with Devils Marbles (Easy Rocking) two lengths back in third.

Chasing a start in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic, Wowsers (pictured as a yearling ) was an $80,000 purchase by Munce Racing out of the Tyreel Stud draft at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

A half-brother to the Group III ATC Frank Packer Plate winner Mongolian Wolf (Pluck), Wowsers is the third winner out of the unraced Tale Of The Cat (USA) mare Oomaroo who is a half-sister to the dual Group II winner Thump (Red Ransom) out of the 4-time Listed stakes-winner Oomph (Flying Spur).

Bhima Thoroughbreds will offer a Deep Field colt out of Oomaroo at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. That colt had been purchased as a weanling by Andrew Williams Bloodstock $90,000.

Andrew Williams Bloodstock also signed the cheque for $55,000 to secure Oomaroo at this year's Easter Broodmare Sale when she had a negative test to Street Boss (USA).

Wowsers is one of just 12 live foals by the sub-fertile The Wow Signal (IRE) who spent one season shuttling to Swettenham Stud.

Winner of the Group 1 Prix Morny, the son of Starspangledbanner died at the age of six following a battle with laminitis.
