Aussie Group One Success South Africa

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 16
Australian bred three year-old Epaulette colt Soqrat scored the second Group I win of his career when taking out the Group I Cape Guineas at Kenilworth in south Africa on Saturday.

EpauletteA homebred for Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Stud that was foaled and raised in the Hunter Valley at Yarraman Park, Soqrat was the Champion 2YO Colt last season in South Afric and has picked up where he left off.

The Mike de Kock trained colt scored a length and a quarter win in the 1600 metre feature and has now won four of six starts.

Soqrat is the second winner for Hussonet (USA) mare Elzeeza, a daughter of stakes-placed Lunasong from the family of Group I HK Chairman's Prize Sprint winner Lucky Bubbles and Group winners Gunnison, Colorado Claire, Selenium and Moonovermanhattan.

Elzeeza has a rising two year-old Redoute's Choice filly called Hafaawa that is trained at Lindsay Park and featured in a Juvenile Trialw Watch story on Breednet this week, read the story here.

She has a colt by Snitzel to follow, but missed last spring to Not a Single Doubt so no foal this year.

Soqrat is the best of three stakes-winners for dual Group I winner Epaulette joining classy fillies Khulaasa and Meryl.

Epaulette stands at Darley this spring at a fee of $27,500.
