Keeneland January Sale Offers Valuable Opportunity for Australasian Horsemen

Media Release - Tuesday December 4
For Australasian horsemen looking to expand their rosters, this year's Keeneland January Horses of All Ages sale is a can't-miss event. With a wide variety of quality breeding stock, from young fillies to proven broodmares, the sale offers Australasian buyers the opportunity for profit in a market rich in quality breeding stock.

Headlined by Champion Abel Tasman, this year's January Sale features 1,500 horses. The sale will be held January 7 – 10. The entire interactive catalog is available for browsing at Keeneland.com/sales.

The January Sale is an extension of Keeneland's premier November Breeding Stock Sale, offering a wide selection quality breeding stock. This provides buyers the opportunity to find fillies, racing stock, young broodmares and broodmare prospects at all price points. With 1,999 fillies and mares to choose from, buyers will be able to find offerings that suit their breeding, racing and reselling goals and provide long-term value for a lower up-front investment than buyers might find elsewhere.

For buyers looking to complete their roster with young broodmares and broodmare prospects, the sale includes 564 exceptional fillies and mares, eight years old or younger. Many of those featured are in foal to leading North American sires or exciting first-year stallions.

Horsemen have an opportunity to purchase stakes-class fillies and mares. Recent Australian Group 1 Stakes winners out of American-bred mares include FOXPLAY (Foxwedge x Butters (USA)), I AM A STAR (NZ)(I Am Invincible x Star Band (USA)) and RUSSIAN REVOLUTION (Snitzel x Ballet d'Amour (USA)).

The sale will be headlined by Champion Abel
Tasman. The superstar filly, who won the 2017 Kentucky Oaks and five other Grade 1 races while earning nearly $2.8 million in her career, will be offered as a broodmare prospect. Cataloged as Hip 288 and consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, Abel Tasman is preparing for a future as a broodmare after a stunning career that included G1 victories at two, three and four, including the G1 Starlet in her stakes debut; the G1 Acorn; the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks; the G1 Ogden Phipps; the G1 Personal Ensign; and the G1 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs. She was crowned with an Eclipse award as Champion 3-Year-Old Filly, and is undisputedly among the best of her generation.

Keeneland will stream the January Sale in its entirety at Keeneland.com. Sessions begin daily at 10 a.m. ET.
