Sweet Little Double

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 1
It's common for stallions to sire more than one winner at a meeting, but a lot less common for broodmares to do likewise, however we saw it at Canterbury on Friday when Emirates Park's Sweet Little Lies produced not one but two winners.

$240,000 Magic Millions purchase Tunero is the first foal and first winner for Sweet Little LiesA stakes-placed daughter of Elusive Quality (USA), Sweet Little Lies was bred and raced by the late Brian Agnew and went to stud in 2013. Her first foal born was a colt by Teofilo (IRE) that was sold first as a weanling for $75,000 to renowned pinhookers Musk Creek Farm, who then resold him for $240,000 at Magic Millions to Mulcaster Bloodstock.

Trained by Chris Waller, the now four year-old gelding Tunero scored over 1900 metres at Canterbury in a Benchmark 70 event, his second win from 13 starts.

Sweet Little Lies was sold in 2015 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale with Emirates Park signing the docket at $205,000.

She was in foal to Choisir and the result of that mating, a flashy chestnut filly called Tell Me was also a winner at Canterbury on Friday night in the Emirates Park colours.

Trained by Team Hawkes, the three year-old was a short priced favourite against older mares and scored a tenacious head win making it two city wins in a row having broken her maiden at the same venue last start.

Sweet Little Lies has a two year-old filly by Dream Ahead (USA) called Little Stevie that was sold at Inglis Classic this year for $60,000 to Ellerton Zahra Racing and her current yearling is a filly by Snitzel,

Sweet Little Lies is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to stakes-winner Nocturnelle, who has thrown a couple expensive yearlings including $1million Snitzel colt Dracarys, a Group III winner.

Sweet Little Lies has foaled this spring producing a colt by Not a Single Doubt.

Her first two foals are both good metropolitan winners so there could be even better to come for Sweet Little Lies.
