Pierro Filly Wins WA Guineas

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 24
A week ago Pierro filly Arcadia Queen beat the best of her sex to win the Group III WATC Champion Fillies Stakes and this week she beat the colts to win the Group II WATC West Australian Guineas at Ascot.

Arcadia Queen - Perth Racing TwitterA homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters, the Grant and Alana Williams trained Arcadia Queen only made her debut with a win on September 19 and has been on a steep upward spiral since then.

Ridden by William Pike, Arcadia Queen raced forward to track the leaders from a good barrier and thrashed her rivals in the run to the line to win the 1600 metre feature by three lengths.

"You'd have to say the fillies are better than the colts this year, the first three are all fillies," said Bob Peters, who is considering a start for the filly in the $1million Group I WATC Kingston Town Stakes over 1800m on December 8.

"She'll tell us if she's right for the Kingston Town. If she's right, she'll go for it."

Arcadia Queen has the impressive record of four wins and a third from just five starts with prizemoney just shy of $490,000.

A half-sister to Group II WA Derby winner Arcadia Dream and stakes-winner Arcadia Rose, she is from prized broodmare Arcadia, a full sister to stakes-winner Broadway Belle, who gave the Peters' Group II WATC West Australian Derby winner Action, another high class three year-old by Pierro.

A 14 year-old daughter of champion sire Redoute's Choice, Arcadia has a yearling filly by Arcadia Dream's sire Domesday and produced a filly foal also by Domesday this spring that is pictured at Holbrook Thoroughbreds (image Joan Faras).

Arcadia Queen is one of 12 stakes-winners from the first two crops of Pierro, who has 32 yearlings catalogued for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale in January.
