I'm A Princess Opens Her Stakes Account In Style

Mark Smith - Saturday November 17

As a sister to 5-time Group 1 winner Shoot Out, the Tony McEvoy-trained I'm A Princess added to her already considerable value when she earned her first stakes success with an incredibly brave performance in Saturday's Group III Summoned Stakes at Sandown.

Caught three and four wide at the back of the field for Damian Lane, the daughter of High Chaparral didn't shirk her task in the straight to defeat Thumbelina by a long head with Aeecee Tong De two and a quarter lengths back in third.

Third at her most recent start in Morphettville, the 5yo mare was making just her second start after winning at Morphettville 12 months ago.

A homebred for Linda Huddy's Peachester Lodge, I'm A Princess advances her record to 5 2 1 from 11 starts with earnings of $178,550.

"She's a good mare but that's a little bit of a surprise," McEvoy said.

"Second-up, straight to 1500 metres and straight to this level, I thought it was a good effort.

"She's a very brave mare, she had a tough trip, she was wide throughout - there is a lot of upside in this girl I think.

"There's not much to go to now and we will begin to plan for next year".

I'm a Princess becomes the third stakes winner for the Pentire mare, Pentamerous.

Besides being the sister to the Australian Derby, ATC Chipping Norton Stakes (twice), George Main Stakes and AJC Randwick Guineas winner Shoot Out, I'm A Princess is a half-sister to Group III Western Australian Oaks winner Cassandra Shadow (Johannesburg) and a three-quarter sister to Listed winner Silvera.

The 18yo Pentamerous has had a troubled history of late and she hasn't had a live foal since I'm A Princess.

She slipped her Lucas Cranach foal last year.

I'm A Princess becomes the 123rd stakes-winner for High Chaparral (IRE) who died in December 2014.
