Street Cry's Tally Becomes a Millionaire

Mark Smith - Saturday November 17

While he may not have lived up to the promise he showed at three when reeling off four consecutive wins including a Group II double before finishing third in Tavago's Group 1 ATC Derby, Tally has proved to be an honest money spinner for Godolphin.

The 6yo gelded son of Street Cry (IRE) became racings latest millionaire at Sandown on Saturday when he powered home under his top-weight to defeat He Ekscels in the last bound in the Group III Eclipse Stakes (1800m).

With his fifth stakes victory, the James Cummings-trained gelding advances his overall record to 8 wins, 4 seconds and 4 thirds from 34 starts with earnings of $1,068,335.

Ridden by Craig Williams, Tally came from midfield to defeat a stubborn He Ekscels (Ekraar) by a short-half-head with Muraaqeb (Snitzel) a half-neck back in third.

Stable representative Jason Walsh said Tally has been a wonderful servant to the stable.

"It's great to get another feature stakes race with him. He's been a fantastic horse for the stable. These horses that have had a number of seasons with us, the team develops a great affinity with them," Walsh said.

"He has been effective at a variety of distances and has been racing in the top company since his three-year-old days.

"We will get him home and make sure he is right, we have talked about Perth being an option for him around cup time but he has nothing to left to prove for us. He has been a fantastic animal and one we are very proud of."

Bred by Darley, Tally is the sixth foal of the imported Kris S mate Itemise (USA) who finished her racing career in Australia where she won the Listed STC Winter Cup and was runner-up in the Group 1 AJC Metropolitan Handicap.

The first six foals out of Itemise (USA) are all winners but that did not save her being culled by Darley at the 2014 Mafic Millions National Broodmare Sale with Ladyship Lodge signing the ticket for $41,000.

She has an unnamed 2yo filly by Bernardini (USA).

Not served in 2016, Itemise (USA) was covered by Adelaide (IRE) last spring.
