Juvenile Trial Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 13
Three juvenile heats at Canterbury on Tuesday featured some interesting winners including two promising youngsters by champion sires Snitzel and Fastnet Rock.

Eleven Eleven as a yearlingPrepared by Greg Hickman, Fastnet Rock gelding Eleven Eleven was featured in a Juvenile Trial Watch story last month and was able to win again at his second public outing. He showed brilliant speed to lead and then coasted to the line for Tommy Berry to win his 900 metre heat by more than a length in 54.91 seconds.

A $230,000 purchase for his trainer from the Magic Millions draft of Edinburgh Park, Eleven Eleven is the second foal of Smokin Alice (USA), who comes from a US family that has had incredible success in Australia. Her grand-dam Adarling, is also the grand-dam of celebrated producer Mica's Pride, the dam of Group I stars Criterion and Comin' Through, who is also by Fastnet Rock.

Fastnet Rock has achieved multiple stakes winners with this family such as Siege of Quebec, Bull Point, Upon This Rock and Amah Rock..

Edinburgh Park will offer a full brother to Eleven Eleven at the 2019 Magic Millions as Lot 143 so will be hoping Greg Hickman gets him to the races successfully sooner rather than later.

Second in that heat was an expensive Redoute's Choice colt in Creator, who was bought by James Harron Bloodstock for $1.5 million at Inglis Easter. Prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, he was ridden quietly early and steamed home under a hold at his second trial appearance.

Creator is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to Group II winner Sister Madly being from Silla Regalis, a half-sister by Encosta de Lago to world champion sprinter Silent Witness.

Cardiff as a yearlingRunning quicker time in the next trial was Snitzel colt Cardiff, who carried the Aquis Farm colours to an easy three length win over Godolphin runner Tassort, covering the 900m in 53.66.

Cardiff won his only previous trial last month and looks sharp and well educated to go to the races, likewise the runner-up Tassort. The half-brother by Brazen Beau to Group I winners Astern and Alizee, Tassort bolted in at his only other trial when allowed to run, but this time was asked to settle and take a sit. He duly obliged and was never out of second gear at any stage.

Cardiff was recorded as a $600,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Anthony Freedman from the Aquis Farm draft, but is trained by Gerald Ryan for a syndicate headed by Aquis. He is a half-brother to two winners from stakes-winning Sequalo mare Cariad.

The third two year-old heat winner was Samphire Hoe (Dawn Approach (IRE), click here to see all the trial results.
