Ones to Watch – Gosford and Geelong

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 1
It seems hardly a week goes by that we don't see winners for our exciting young classic type sires Dundeel and Fiorente (IRE), who both posted impressive maiden winners on Thursday at Gosford and Geelong.

Malfoy as a yearlingPromising Dundeel gelding Malfoy was a short priced favourite in the 1600 metre maiden at Gosford and the Kris Lees trained three year-old beat the older horses in a canter by four lengths at his third start.

A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Arrowfield draft for Lees Racing, he runs for a syndicate of stable clients and Arrowfield Stud and partners who bred him.

Malfoy is a half-brother to Group III placed Slumber Party and is from Hokuspokus, a half-sister by Red Ransom (USA) to this season's Group III winner Master Ash from the family of leading sire Not a Single Dount and Group I ATC Flight Stakes winner Oohood.

He is the tenth winner this season for Dundeel, who stands at Arrowfield Stud at a fee of $27,500.

Fiorente has two runners in the Victoria Derby field and if they stay as well as Lord Gladstone did when winning at Geelong over 2200 metres, anything could happen!

Lord Gladstone as a yearlingTrained by Anthony Freedman, Lord Gladstone relished his first try at a longer staying trip, racing up on the pace and powering clear to win by four and a half lengths at his sixth start.

A $140,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Rushton Park draft for Freedman Brothers, Lord Gladstone is a half-brother to Group II placed Flying Light from stakes-placed Lonhro mare Fly Higher.

Lord Gladstone is the seventh winner this season for Fiorente, who stands at Sun Stud at a fee of $17,600.
