Vale, Dato Tan Chin Nam

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 22
The sad passing has been announced of four-Melbourne Cup winning owner Dato Tan Chin Nam at the age of 93.

The Malaysian businessman made his fortune in property and won Australia's greatest race with Think Big (twice) Saintly and Viewed, all trained by the late Bart Cummings, who also trained his dual Cox Plate winner So You Think, now a leading sire at Coolmore.

Norzita and her first foal born in 2015A lover of chess and horses, Dato Tan also won the VRC Oaks with Faint Perfume and the 1998 Doncaster Handicap with Catalan Opening in his black and white check jacket with yellow sleeves.

Another of his more recent stars was Group I ATC Vinery Stud Stakes and Flight Stakes winner Norzita, pictured here at Dato Tan Chin Nam's Think Big Stud in 2015.

Situated on the Southern Highlands of NSW, Think Big Stud was the source of much pleasure for Dato Tan Chin Nam, whose bloodstock portfolio was managed with great success by Duncan Ramage of DGR Thoroughbreds.

A great friend and associate of the late Bart Cummings it is nice to think these two great gentlemen of the turf will be reunited again on the other side for this year's Melbourne Cup.
