Three in a Row for Girl Tuesday

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 26
Winx might be the most famous daughter of Street Cry (IRE) trained by Chris Waller, but royally bred four year-old Girl Tuesday is well on the way to making a big name for herself after scoring her third win in a row at Rosehill on Wednesday.

Girl Tuesday when winning at NewcastleA homebred for John Singleton from his former champion mare Tuesday Joy, Girl Tuesday has come a long way in her first campaign which started with a barrier trial on July 9 in which she ran fourth.

Girl Tuesday broke her maiden on August 25 at Newcastle before winning again at the same venue on September 14 and was sent out a hot favourite for her first attempt in town taking on a Benchmark 76 fillies and mares event over 1500 metres.

Ridden patiently under her 59kg by James McDonald, she surged to the line when angled into the clear to win running away by thee and a quarter lengths.

"She's a top mare in the making," said McDonald.

"She's still so raw and has a lot of furnishing to do. She'll be better in the autumn, a Group horse."

Girl Tuesday is the fifth winner from Singleton's star mare Tuesday Joy, who won four at the highest level, the Coolmore Classic, The BMW, Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Chipping Norton Stakes on the way to banking $3,240,450 with a record of seven wins and nine times placed in her 24 starts.

Tuesday Joy is a half-sister to Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks heroine Sunday Joy, the dam of another to carry the Singleton silks with distinction, 8-time Group 1 winner More Joyous.

A daughter of the Group 1 Queensland Oaks winner Joie Denise and a granddaughter of the famed Denise's Joy, Tuesday Joy has a 3yo Snitzel filly named Tuesday Special who is yet to race.

After missing to Snitzel in 2015 and Savabeel in 2016, Tuesday Joy was covered by Savabeel again last spring.
