Daughter of Deep Impact Impresses on Debut at Newcastle

Mark Smith - Tuesday September 4

Paul Fudge's Waratah Thoroughbreds is beginning to reap the rewards from a buying spree at the 2011 Tattersalls December sales at Newmarket.

Recently, his Frankel colt New Horizons, a son of Fudge's 625,000 guineas purchase Miss Keller (Montjeu) broke his maiden at the Sunshine Coast.

At Newcastle on Tuesday, the Waratah colour-bearer Wild Impact (JPN) broke her maiden at her career debut in a 1600 metre maiden at Newcastle.

The John Thompson-trained daughter of Deep Impact (JPN) came from midfield under Rachel King to overpower the favourite Given Time (Civics) by a length with the winners more favoured stablemate Purple Sector (Pins) a further length and a quarter back in third.

A 4yo to southern hemisphere time, Wild Impact is a daughter of Siren's Song, a stakes-winning daughter of Azamour (IRE), who was purchased by Waratah Thoroughbreds for 320,000 guineas as a three-year-old.

Siren's Song is a half-sister to Group II Great Voltigeur Stakes winner Centennial out of the stakes-placed mare Lurina (Lure).

One of seven winners out of the stakes=placed Alleged mare Alligatrix, Kurina is a half-sister to Group 1 Prix d'Ispahan and Group 1 Prix Lupin winner Croco Rouge (Rainbow Quest) who placed in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and French Derby, and to the wonder broodmare Aldiva (Chief Singer) the dam of Group 1 winners Taipan, Ali-Royale and Sleepytime.

Wild Impact has an unraced 3yo sister named Lost Impact.

Siren's Song (IRE) was imported to Australia in February 2017 after slipping to Deep Impact (JPN) (pictured).

She was covered by Medaglia d'Oro (USA) last spring and three weeks back foaled a colt.
