Best On Breeding

Mark Smith - Friday August 24

A couple of weeks back, we struck gold with Mig Energy, who is a son of Redoute’s Choice from a famous Western Australian family, so we will stick to the same theme for Saturday’s Best On Breeding.

It may all have come a bit too quick for Tchaikovsky last season.

The son of Redoute’s Choice can claim a lone win in a Gosford maiden from four starts but he can boast a third in the Group II Todman Stakes and was highly enough thought of by the Snowden stable to contest the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

He was never really a factor in that but was far from disgraced in finishing just over five lengths behind the shock winner El Dorado Dreaming.

It will be interesting to see how Tchaikovsky has progressed when he makes his seasonal bow in Saturday’s Group III San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

It will be anxious time for connections who outlaid $1.3 million for Tchaikovsky at the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Consigned by Arrowfield Stud, the son of Redoute’s Choice was purchased by James Herron Bloodstock.

He is the second winner from as many to race out of the unraced Stravinsky mare Ballet Blue.

Herself a $300,000 yearling, Ballet Blue is a half-sister to four stakes-winners and two stakes-placed winners out of the influential Haulpak mare Rich Haul.

Her progeny include the Group II Maribynong Plate winner and multiple Group 1-placed The Heavyweight (Zeditatave) as well as the dual Listed winner Zedrich who was a useful stallion and the stakes-winning western symphony mare Born Western who is the dam of the dual Listed stakes-winner Excelorada (Exceed And Excel.

Rich Haul’s unraced daughter Addictive is the dam of the stakes-winning General Nediym mare So Anyway who was multiple Group placed.

Rich haul is a half-sister to the Group II Karrakatta Plate winner Born Priceless and to the dam of the Group 1 ARC Railway stakes winner Imananabaa.

Ballet Blue has a 2yo colt by Olympic Glory that was purchased by Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott/Blue Sky (FBAA) for $210,000 by at Magic Millions earlier this year.

After missing to Not A Single doubt in 2016, Ballet Blue was covered by Snitzel last spring.
