Overdue Success Not Unexpected

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 15
August 1 marks the start of a new season and it's a clean slate for our young sires and one stallion has done the unexpected and now heads the Australian Second Season Sires List by winners.

UnencumberedThree Bridges Thoroughbreds had tremendous faith in their Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unencumbered when he retired to stud in 2014.

Despite his profile as a precocious two year-old on the track, Unencumbered made a slow start to his stud career and at the time of his premature death in March this year the son of Testa Rossa was still without a winner.

Fast forward to now and Unencumbered has six winners on the board since August 1 (Click here to see his winners) and is a clear leader on the second season sires list by winners, while last season's runaway leading first season sire by winners Spirit of Boom is yet to taste success.

Figure that one out!

The burgeoning success of Unencumbered will come as a relief to his many supporters as he covered 100 plus books of mares in each of his four seasons at stud so there are plenty of them still to come through the pipeline.

The final crop of Unencumbered foals will be born this spring.
