One to Watch – Geelong

This talented daughter of Foxwedge was frustratingly close to a stakes win last season at two, but with this commanding victory at Geelong on Tuesday has shown she is ready to be right in the thick of spring carnival racing.

Aristocratic Miss as a yearlingThe Tony McEvoy trained Aristocratic Miss was a red hot favourite for her return in the 1300 metre maiden and never looked in danger of defeat.

She travelled smoothly in fifth position for Luke Currie and when asked to accelerate down the straight quickly dropped her overmatched rivals and forged clear for a four length win.

A $65,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Grange Thoroughbreds draft for McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Aristocratic Miss had been stakes-placed four times previously last season,  so was well overdue to break the ice and can go forward swiftly with this maiden victory under her belt.

Bred by Henry Field and partners at Newgate Farm, Aristocractic Miss was sold originally by Newgate as a weanling at the Magic Millions National Sale fetching $25,000 when pinhooked by Gary Mudgway.

She is the best of eight winners from top producer and stakes-winner Golden Pedigree, a half-sister to the dam of Group I winner The Verminator.

Aristocratic Miss looks a great chance of giving her sire Foxwedge another stakes-winner in the new season, the Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock standing at a fee of $22,000 at Newgate Farm this spring.
