Quick Return from Quick Defense

Media Release - Monday August 13

Having been sold on gavelhouse Australia just a fortnight earlier, Quick Defense has repaid his new connections his $50,000 purchase price in one fell swoop.

Quick DefenseQuick Defence is destined to join the stable of John Blacker, who has a team of between 40 to 50 horses in Tasmania and has been a leading trainer in the Apple Isle for a long time "We are always looking for open class horses but with the prizemoney levels in Tasmania, it is too expensive to be sourcing these type of horses from Europe direct."

Blacker missed out on fellow Waller galloper Richard of Yorkewho fetched $42,000 in one of the previous gavelhouse.com Australia sales and had seen Quick Defence was only a few lengths off winning in Melbourne and Sydney so believed he would be well suited to racing competitively in Tasmania.

A number of factors led to Quick Defence staying in Sydney to reap the rewards on Saturday "With only the one ship running at present between Melbourne and Devonport at present, the weather a fair bit colder in Tassie and the carnival down here not until later in the year we decided to contact the Waller stable to see if they would like to continue to race him in the meantime and it's all worked out."

The now seven year old gelding made the most of his inside barrier at Rosehill, settling in for an economical trip in the hands of Tommy Berry.

On entering the straight, Quick Defence knuckled down for a thrilling battle with Royal Stamp to get up with just a 0.1 length margin to bank $53,375 in what was a game effort carrying 61kg over the 2000m trip.

Quick Defence has now won just shy of $350,000 with 6 wins and 12 placings from 44 starts and was imported to Australia as part of Chris Waller Racing's annual intake of tried horses from the Tattersall's Horses in Training Sale in 2015.

The American-bred son of First Defence is out of the stakes-placed Dubai Millennium mare Quickfire, who herself has produced two stakes-performers, has been a good money spinner for his connections, costing just $22,000 guineas and returning over $270,000 before selling for $50,000 on gavelhouse.com and winning again on Saturday.

The latest gavelhouse.com Australia auction is set to close from 7pm AEST Monday 13 August with the next fortnightly sale entries due on Monday 20 August. Contact the gavelhouse.com Australia team to discuss the best way to market your bloodstock +61396144882 or email info@gavelhouse.com
