Debut Win for Catchy Sister

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 8
A full sister to Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Catchy, Fastnet Rock filly Symi was the centre of attention at Canterbury when making her debut on Wednesday and she emerged with a win on the board.

Symi as a yearlingPrepared by Team Hawkes and ridden by Tommy Berry, Symi led all the way and showed plenty of fight at the finish to win the Benchmark 69 event over 1250 metres by a short head.

"She jumped well, travelled beautifully in the run and dug deep when it mattered," said Michael Hawkes.

"She'll improve a lot off that too."

A $700,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft for renowned Sydney owner Alan Bell, Symi was bred by Joy and Sam Jenkins and foaled and raised at Coolmore. She is a full sister to $1.9 million earner and Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Catchy as well as three other winners.

Her dam Cats Whisker, a Group II winning daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) has the perfect record of five foals to race all winners and all are by Fastnet Rock.

Coolmore sold the now two year-old Fastnet Rock colt from Cats Whisker at Inglis Easter this year for $500,000 and there is a yearling filly to follow by Pierro.

Cats Whisker is due to foal again this spring to Fastnet Rock.
