Caulfield Guineas aspirations for rookie Brisbane winner

Ben Dorries - Saturday August 12

David Vandyke revealed he has Group I Caulfield Guineas aspirations for his debut winner Let's Party Marty after the impressive colt led all the way to win at Doomben.

While there were some hard luck stories behind him, including $2.90 favourite Whypeoo who missed the kick, Let's Party Marty ($12) made his own luck in the QTIS 3YO Handicap.

Let's Party Marty, who won a Sunshine Coast trial on the same day as Group I winning stablemate Yankee Rose, kicked in the Doomben straight to fend off Snitz ($12) by 1.5 lengths with short half-head to third-placed I Am Impinge ($3).

Vandyke, the former Sydney trainer now based on the Sunshine Coast, will assess his colt's recovery but insisted he had explosive talent.

"I have thrown in a nomination for the Caulfield Guineas because he is a serious, serious racehorse," Vandyke said.

"I have long thought he is one of my better horses and I want to throw him in the deep end and see how good he is.

"He worked hard to get to the front today and he gave a terrific kick."

Jockey Tegan Harrison said she always felt like she was on the winner and was grateful the three-year-old first starter had been so well educated.

"It feels like he has been here in a past life and done it all before," Harrison said.

Trainer Toby Edmonds had the two favourites, Whypeoo and I Am Impinge, and felt both were unlucky.

"Both of them came out slow and both of them were super runs," Edmonds said.

"Whypeoo did a lot wrong, and I Am Impinge probably should have won."
