One to Watch – Sale

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 1
Outside of the freakish one Winx, one of the most popular mares to race in the last few years has been tough as teak $2million earner Single Gaze, whose half-brother won so well on Wednesday we just had to make him the ‘One to Watch’.

Resurge as a yearlingTrained by Tony McEvoy, three year-old So You think colt Resurge was sent for a spell after being narrowly beaten at his second start at Pakenham and returned at Sale on Wednesday in a 1422 metre maiden against older rivals.

He travelled kindly behind the leaders for Luke Currie and when angled into the clear, quickly forged to the front and was doing it very easily to the line in an impressive return to racing.

A $250,000Magic Millions purchase for First Light/McEvoy Mitchell Rcg/Paul Willetts from the draft of Redbank North/ Huntworth Stud, Resurge is the sixth winner from six foals to race from terrific producer Redaluca’s Gaze, whose best winner is Group I ATC Vinery Stud Stake heroine Single Gaze, who was also second in the Group I MRC Caulfield Cup.

She is also the dam of stakes-winner Le Val and it will be no surprise if Resurge makes it a hat trick of stakes winners for Redaluca’s Gaze as his classic season unfolds.

So You Think enjoyed great results last season finishing with progeny earnings topping $6.8 million and seven stakes-winners headed by Group I stars D’Argento and Sopressa.

The champion son of High Chaparral (IRE) stands at Coolmore at a fee of $44,000.
