Best On Breeding

Mark Smith - Friday August 11

There are two stakes races for the new season three-year-olds on Saturday with the Aurie's Star Handicap at Flemington and the Listed Rosebud at Rosehill, however, we will be travelling to Doomben for an intriguing QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap over 1200 metres.

With a full field of 16 starters, the race is chockful of promising youngsters with four (including emergency)  by champion sire Snitzel and three by rising star I Am Invincible.

Also represented are More Than Ready (USA), All Too Hard, Excelebration (IRE), Fastnet Rock, Show A Heart and Manhattan Rain.

All three by I Am Invincible won their last start.

Segenhoe Stud has an interest in two, both trained by Toby Edmonds and both made a trip to NSW to break their maidens on debut.

Racing in the Segenhoe colours, I Am Impinge broke his maiden at Coffs Harbour on July 23.

Five days later Whypeeo hacked up by five and a half lengths at Ballina.

After taking a step backwards at the start, Whypeeo quickly took control of the race and was being eased down in the closing stages. (watch the race here courtesy of RNSW).

Carrying the colours of Blue Sky Bloodstock, Whypeeo (pictured as a yearling) was a $200,000 purchase from the Yarraman Stud draft at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

A half-brother to four winners including the Group II Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Meliora, he is the seventh foal of the Fasliyev mare Sunset Boulevard.

Meliora, a daughter of Cangon Stud’s Ad Valorem (USA), has a first foal two-year-old by I Am Invincible that made $300,000 to the bid of Blue Sky Bloodstock at this year’s Magic Millions.

Sunset Boulevard is a direct decedent of Raise You whose name will live on as the dam of Raise A Native who sired, among others, Mr Prospector and Alydar.
