One To Watch - Mildura

Mark Smith - Monday July 9

The only two-year-old in the field, the Darren Weir-trained Invincible Fille justified her short quote and looks to be a filly with a future after dispatching 10 of her elders with the minimum of fuss in a maiden over 1009 metres at Mildura on Monday.

After beginning well, Invincible Fille was dropped back in a trailing position by Dean Yendall.

Brought to the outside to mount her challenge, the daughter of I Am Invincible out of the No Excuse Needed mare, Etoile Fille, hit top stride in the final 100 metres to win running away by one and a quarter length from Pink Pig (Atomic) with All Spur (Jet Spur) a further length and a quarter back in third.

Stable representative Darryn Murphy said the filly has a bright future.

"It was a good smart win," Murphy told Racing.com.

"She has trialled quite smartly and it was good to see her begin sharply and pleasing to see her take a trail early and finish over the top of them late.

"She'll learn more from that than just jumping to the front and leading all the way so we will look forward to her next start.

"There is not a lot of her, she's only small but she's got a beautiful, beautiful action and a good nature and I'm sure there are more wins in store."

Purchased for $140,000 by D Weir / J Foote from the Manx Park draft at the 2017 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Invincible Fille (pictured as a yearling) is a half-sister to the Group III-placed Sebring filly Stop Making Sense.

She is the fourth winner from as many foals out of the Sydney winning mare Etoile Fille who is a daughter of the dual Group III winning Centaine mare Starcent who was runner-up in the Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas and Group 1 Bayer Classic.

This is the famed Waikato family descending from Star Of The Knight (Sir Tristram).
