One to Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 25

A half-sister to a Group I winner having just her second race start was always going to be a winner to catch the eye at Rosehill on Wednesday.

Trained by Ciaron Maher, three year-old Bivouac filly Fireball Miss made her debut earlier this month when fifth in a 1200m maiden at Warwick Farm.

Stepping up to 1500m this time for a $100,000 Super Maiden with Zac Lloyd to ride, Fireball Miss was the top pick for punters, but had to dig deep at the finish to outpoint the Chris Waller trained Zoustar filly Almaaaz to win by a head.

Both fillies are on the improve and given Fireball Miss is a half-sister to Group I SA Derby winner Femminile, longer trips may even suit her better.

“She’s still learning and is very promising,” said stable representative Johann Gerard-Dubord.

“She’s a well bred filly as a half-sister to the SA Derby winner last year, so it’s good to get the maiden win today and especially for such good prizemoney.

“It’s great for Bennett Racing, they have been such good supporters of ours and they keep finding good horses and they will have a lot of fun with her.”

Fireball Miss was a $140,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Vinery.

Fireball Miss was a $140,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Vinery Stud for Bennett Racing and is the second foal and second winner from stakes-placed Pierro mare Femme Fireball, a half-sister to Group III winner Rock.

Femme Fireball was sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year for $900,000 to Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) /Paul Willetts Bloodstock and is now with Three Bridges Thoroughbreds and produced a filly for them last spring by Anamoe.

At the same sale, Femminile sold for $1.5million to Yulong and was covered by Lucky Vega (IRE) in her first season at stud, so there is quite a bit going on in this family which may well make Fireball Miss a very good investment for her owners!
