Records Tumble as Gingerbread Man Colt Tops Book Two

Media Release - Friday February 20

A colt by leading local sire Gingerbread Man topped Book Two when selling for $190,0000 as the 2026 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale rounded out with record breaking results.

Offered as part of a quality Yarradale Stud draft, the colt was purchased by Peter and Luke Fernie after a spirit bidding battle at the Swan Valley Sales Complex.

Today's strong selling helped the sale return a new record gross and average prices with over $21.4 million traded over the past two days at a clearance rate of 86 per cent.

Friday's top selling colt is a full brother to the seven time winner and stakes placed Red Fifty Three - an earner of over $400,000.

The $190,000 seller just edged out a pair of colts by Zousain (Lot 198 from Mungrup Pty Ltd to Yenrise Pty Ltd) and Playing God (Lot 237 from Darling View Thoroughbreds to Morton Racing) who sold for $180,000.

The top priced filly of the day was the Lightsaber-Reliable Dame youngster who was presented by Mungrup Pty Ltd and purchased by Millfields Park and Vern Brockman for $170,000.

"It was an outstanding day," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "It was a record sale for Book Two."

"It was a very healthy average of $47,000 and a clearance rate that was exceptional around 85 per cent."

"To be able to sell 16 horses for $100,000 or more was an outstanding effort. There was a great appetite for the quality horses here today."

"The depth of the market right through the sale - in particular the local market, which picked up some 122 horses today."

"All in all it's been a great two days. I have to congratulate the breeders here in the West. They've allowed us to sell great product on their behalf."

"So many here now investing in better broodmares and stallions are reaping the rewards and that's been reflected here in the market."

"It's been a record sale. Well in excess of $21 million and we're thrilled to be able to achieve that on behalf of the industry here in Western Australia."

"We look to continue to build on these results and to see the breeding industry remain vibrant and successful," Bowditch added.

The sales focus now switches immediately to the Apple Isle for Monday's Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale at Quercus Park, outside Launceston.

"The Tasmanian Yearling Sale has a proud record of producing high class horses across Australia and indeed abroad."

"There is always exceptional value to be had at the auction and I know, from my own early inspections, there's great depth and quality across the catalogue," Bowditch added.
