First Win for $1.6million Karaka Sale-Topper

Tara Madgwick - Thursday February 19

The top lot at the 2024 Karaka Book 1 Yearling Sale and the highest priced yearling by champion sire Proisir ever sold, $1.6million filly Seychelles opened her account at Pakenham on Thursday.

Placed at two of her first three starts last spring, the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman trained filly was returning in the 1400m maiden with Jordan Childs to ride.

She loomed into contention at the furlong marker and was strong to the line winning by half a length.

A stronger filly this time around, Seychelles will no doubt step up in trip and the quest for Black Type will be a high priority for the well bred filly, who runs in the colours of Fairway Thoroughbreds.

Purchased from the Hallmark Stud draft at Karaka by Moody Racing, Seychelles is a full sister to dual Group I winner Prowess and is the fifth winner from six foals to race from top producer Donna Marie.

Seychelles sold for $1.6million topping Karaka Book 2024.

A placed half-sister by Don Eduardo to stakes-winner Onceuponatime from Group II winner Scarlet Runner, Donna Marie has been a goldmine for Hallmark Stud.

They sold another Proisir filly from the mare at Karaka Book 1 in 2024 for $1.1million to Mr RA James / Mr R Wellwood and yet another Proisir filly this year for $300,000 to Equine Growth Fund Pty Ltd / SP Bloodstock.
