Akeed Mofeed Poised To Strike

Mark Smith - Sunday June 24

Short-priced favourite Poised To Strike looks to have a bright future following his dominant win in Saturday's MJ Chickens Hcp (1250m) at Morphettville Parks.

Ridden by Dominic Tourneur, Poised To Strike found the back of second favourite Unfair Dismissal in the early stages. Four and five deep around the turn after being flushed out, Poised To Strike displayed an impressive turn of foot to put the race to bed in a matter of strides.

He went to the line under his own steam to defeat the Darren Weir-trained Social Spin by two and a quarter lengths with Unfair Dismissal three-quarter of a length back in third.

Trained by David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Poised To Strike was a fast-finishing second at his career debut over the same track and distance on June 9.

The Goldin Farm homebred becomes the fourth winner for Dubawi's Hong Kong Cup winner Akeed Mofeed (IRE) who moves into the top ten on the first season sires table.

Poised To Strike is the second foal and second winner out of the imported Encosta de Lago mare Pandoro De Lago (IRE) who was purchased out of the 2013 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $85,000.

Her first foal, Sacred Rebel could not make it a family double when finishing midfield in the Singapore Airlines Plate (1350m) at Doomben.

Pandoro De Lago (IRE) has a yearling colt and weanling filly by Akeed Mofeed (IRE) and was covered by Arrowfield Stud's first season stallion Shalaa (IRE) last spring.

All four winners by Akeed Mofeed (IRE) have won in the metropolitan area.

He deserves increased support at Goldin Farm in 2018 where his fee has been set at $16,500.
