Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 3

Three heats won by unraced juveniles at the Warwick Farm trials on Tuesday morning were by some pretty interesting stallions in Home Affairs, Farnan and yes, Gun Runner!

A champion sire in North America, there are not many of his offspring in Australia with this colt Genesis Runner, one of three two year-olds in the country by Gun Runner.

Trained by Richard and Will Freedman, he was having his second trial following a debacle at his first trial when he was eased out of it and failed to finish behind subsequent stakes-winner Chilly Girl.

He was more than competitive this time and was ridden with intent to win his heat over the Ciaron Maher trained Zoustar colt  Inner Gold, who worked home nicely for second in the Bennett Racing colours.

A $575,0000 Inglis Easter purchase for Yulong, Genesis Runner is the second foal of stakes-placed import Originator (USA), an Artie Schiller mare from an international Black Type family

The Ciaron Maher stable won the next heat with Home Affairs colt Barracks, who was having his first trial and did everything right, settling behind the leader and then lengthening went angled into clear running to win by nearly a length with ears pricked.

A strong powerful colt, he looked to do it very easily.

A $420,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer, Barracks is a half-brother to the slick stakes-placed mare Spring Lee being from lightning fast G2 winning sprinter Wild Rain, who comes from the family of Australian Horse of the Year Northerly.

The third heat was won by the Clarry Connors trained filly Gone to Gowings in the Strawberry Hill stud colours of John Singleton. She was having her third trial and second this prep, with this easily her best effort so far. She led all the way to beat the Gary Portelli trained Godolphin filly Handloom, who was given a solid hitout at her first outing since finishing unplaced in the G3 Gimcrack Stakes.

A $260,000 Magic Millions purchase, Gone to Gowings is the third foal from Devout Heiress (USA), a placed US bred import that traces back to an elite Euro female family that has had success in Australia to produce Group I winning sprinter Zoutori.
