Coolmore Raised and Grazed Success – Classic Opportunities

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 3

Group winning juveniles Hidrix and Rubi’s Choice started life in the paddocks of Coolmore and this week at Riverside Stables yearling buyers will have the opportunity to inspect another great draft of Inglis Classic Yearlings that have enjoyed the exact same upbringing.

Coolmore will offer five yearlings by Home Affairs at Inglis Classic.

Coolmore will offer 14 yearlings including five by exciting young sire Home Affairs, who has already sired Group II winner Kinnaird, plus five more stakes-placed horses along with highly rated debut winners Jacaranda and Guest House, who are both entered for stakes races this Saturday.

Hidrix sold for $1.7million at Inglis Easter.

Coolmore had a sensational result at the 2025 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale selling a dashing grey Extreme Choice colt for $1.7million on behalf of his breeder Kate Nivison and racing as Hidrix, he came out and won the Group III ATC Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill last  Saturday.

Before the race, punters could have backed Hidrix at 200-1 for next month’s $5million Group I ATC Golden Slipper and moments after the race the Chris Waller trained colt was put up as equal favourite at $8.

Ridden by Zac Lloyd, Hidrix produced a brilliant sprint at the finish, surging between runners to score by a length and three-quarters over Confederation.

Hidrix was bred by Kate Nivison of Etak Thoroughbreds and she retains an interest in his ownership along with many Waller stable clients.

A full brother to $1million earning G1 winner Apocalyptic, Hidrix is the third winner from three foals to race for Shadow, an unraced Medaglia D’Oro (USA) grand-daughter of dual Group I winner Virage de Fortune, whose grand-dam is the great champion Emancipation.

Shadow was bred by Godolphin and on-sold for $140,000 to Mitchell Bloodstock at the 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, so has proven to be an outstanding investment for Etak Thoroughbreds.

Shadow produced a filly by Pierro last year, so Nivison has a lot more to look forward to.

“I’m a bit in shock, I’m speechless which is unusual for me,’’ Nivison said.

“But you know what? It’s everything I want. I want to breed proper racehorses and be known for breeding proper racehorses.

“I don’t give a sh*t about sale ring prices, my job as a breeder is to produce horses that win, that’s all I want to see, so it’s really satisfying to see a colt like this do what he just did on debut in a key 2YO race.’’

Rubi's Choice was foaled, raised and educated at Coolmore.

Another recent Coolmore raised and grazed juvenile success story is that of Rubi’s Choice, who was bred and is part-owned by Lionel Krongold.

The Rubick filly started life at Coolmore and is now trained by Greg Eurell with a debut victory in the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Preview last month putting her in the picture for further autumn success.

She is among nominations for the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Prelude this Saturday.

Rubi’s Choice is the fourth winner and first stakes-winner from good producer Redasun, a metro winning half-sister to stakes-winner Rednav.

Redasun has a yearling filly by King’s Legacy and produced another filly by him last spring.
