First Winner for Wild Ruler

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 29

In the same week Newgate young gun Profiteer sired his first winner, his barnmate Wild Ruler has followed suit with the Rod Northam trained gelding Savage Look making a winning debut at Scone on Thursday.

With two trial wins under his belt at Scone and Muswellbrook, Savage Look was well educated and with Reece Jones to ride produced a determined finish to run down the Waterhouse Bott trained race favourite Better by Far in the 900m scamper.

Rod Northam was thrilled to get the win with Savage Look, who has pleased at every turn so far.

“He’s such a laid back horse and has been like that all the way through and will just keep improving,” said Northam.

“He really likes to find the line and will be so much better over a bit further.

“I really like him.”

Savage Look was retained by Alma Vale Thoroughbreds after passing in as a yearling.

Savage Look was purchased by Alma Vale Thoroughbreds from the Newgate draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $130,000 and was retained to race after passing in as a yearling.

Bred by SF Bloodstock, he is the fourth winner from four to race from stakes-winning import Katie’s Eyes (USA), who was covered by Ozzmosis last spring.

Wild Ruler has a dozen yearlings entered for Inglis Classic next week.
