One to Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 26

Golden Slipper winning sire Farnan has not been short of winners of late and produced his 20th Aussie winner of the season at Warwick Farm on Australia Day with the Waterhouse Bott stable producing a blue blood filly to win on debut.

Three year-old Oz Princess was easy in the market with just two unplaced trials before taking her place in the 1100m maiden, but her lack of experience proved no negative.

She travelled sweetly on the fence back in the field for Tim Clark and when angled into clear running with a furlong to run produced a good turn of foot.

Oz Princess surged clear to win by more than a length over Godolphin blueblood Sphere, a three-quarter sister to Group I winner Cylinder.

Passed in as a yearling, Oz Princess is a homebred for the Bott family’s Evergreen Rich and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Oz Empress and Group III placed Key, the dam of this season’s Group placed colt I’m Ya Huckleberry.

“It’s not easy to win anywhere on debut, let alone here at a metro meeting with a bit of depth,” said Adrian Bott.

“She’s a well bred filly from an amazing family that just keeps producing winners and particularly the fillies.

“So this will give Dad and the family a nice kick along and they have another valuable filly on their hands.”

Oz Princess is the sixth winner from six foals to race from Vanilla Princess, a metro winning half-sister by Lonhro to Group winners The Wizardofoz and Argentia from Champion NZ 3YO Filly Princess Coup.

Vanilla Princess produced a filly last spring by Ozzmosis and was then covered by Home Affairs.
