Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 22

The Ciaron Maher stable is on a high with their juveniles after a quinella in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic last Saturday and another of their spring stakes-winners Calamari Ring was a winner at the Warwick Farm trials on Thursday morning.

There were four heats won by juveniles including unraced youngsters by Written By and Tassort, but we’ll start with Calamari Ring. She has not been seen since winning the Inglis Banner at Flemington on November 8 beating Streisand, who has accepted for the G3 Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield this Saturday.

Ridden by Jason Collett, the Street Boss (USA) filly did everything right and was quiet to the line winning by three-quarters of a length.

Calamari Ring has a half-sister by Rubick to be offered at Inglis Premier as Lot 45 by Two Bays Farm.

Running slightly quicker time was the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Written By colt Plagiarism, who has raced once for a third in the $1million ATC Golden Gift to Revengeance.

He jumped fast to lead for Regan Bayliss and was held together to win narrowly over the late closing well bred colts Threads, a Godolphin homebred Snitzel from G3 winner Tailleur and Confederation, a Wootton Bassett (GB) from SW Pretty Fast.

Plagiarism is the first foal of winning Snitzel mare Profiterole, a sister to juvenile SW Nomothaj from another juvenile G3 winner in Real Stolle, so pedigree suggests this season could well be his best.

Also by Written By is Lindermann’s half-brother Iommi, who went more than OK at his first trial and went even better to win this one. Trained by Chris Waller as is his famous sibling, Iommi won by a neck over his stablemate Campione D’Italia, who hit the line stylishly with James McDonald in the saddle.

Campione D’Italia is a full brother to frustrating filly Snitzel Miss, who has been Group placed for the Waller stable, but is clinging with determination to her maiden status. Hopefully her brother will be more committed to the cause!

Unraced Tassort filly Agrarian Girl made it two trial wins from two outings for the Waterhouse Bott team and was fast and professional as you would expect leading throughout to win for Adam Hyeronimus. First look at Zousain filly Essay, who charged home for second and third look at Hidrix, the $1.7million full brother to Apocalyptic, who is a lot different to his sister to say the least.

A $280,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Emirates Park, Agrarian Girl is the first foal of stakes-winner Liwa, a half-sister to Group III winner Coleman tracing back to fourth dam triple Group I winner Canny Lass, so she has plenty of pedigree!
