The Magic Millions is a happy hunting ground for Te Akau Racing boss David Ellis and he struck early on Wednesday for an $850,000 filly by Extreme Choice from prolific Tasmanian stakes-winner Deroche.
Consigned by Newgate Farm, the chunky chestnut is the second foal of Deroche, who won 13 races and over $500,000 with a highlight win in the Group III TTC Vamos.

“This is a filly that I put (wrote) in my book as a Golden Slipper filly - ‘just buy her’,” Ellis said.
“I don’t do that very often. I thought she was a ready made two-year-old and she had the scope to go on as nice three and four-year-old.
“I probably paid an extra $100,000 to what I thought she’d make but with the good ones you’ve just got to buy them.”
By leading Tasmanian sire Needs Further, a son of champion sire Encosta de Lago, Deroche was bought by Newgate for $260,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2022.
She produced another colt by Extreme Choice last spring and was then covered by him again.
