Yoyo Yeezy Goes Yes Yes Yes With Three Straight

Dane Squance - Wednesday January 7

Highlighted as a ‘One To Watch’ after breaking his maiden back in July, Matt Hoysted’s 4yo Yes Yes Yes gelding Yoyo Yeeyz has continued on with his winning ways, adding a further two wins from as many starts.

A half-brother to Uncommon James (Cable Bay), a winner of the G1 Oakleigh Plate, Yoyo Yeeyz clearly has an affinity with the Eagle Farm 1000m, having his third start at the track and trip, all with Damian Thornton in the saddle, recording a blistering time of 56.79 for the trip, the fastest of his three wins.

Last out of the barriers when jumping from the outside gate in the small field of five, Thornton took the gelding forward to sit on the outside of Tony Gollan’s well-fancied Spiethtacular.

With Thornton holding up Yoyo Yeeyz as long as possible, he asked for an effort and while he took a little longer than the jockey may have expected to really stretch out, once he did, he extended way to win by just over a half-length margin from the second-favourite Spiethtacular.

Coming from last on the turn, the Michael Rodd ridden Oohalouvre worked home into third, more than three lengths from the runner-up.

“It wasn’t as easy as we probably thought, but he still had to get the job done,” said Hoysted post-race.

“He is a horse that likes to go fast and once he steps slow (as he did here) it took away that asset that we know he does have … and he had to adapt. Thankfully, he was still able to be good enough.

“When he gets things his own way … he is a bit of a control freak … he can be much more effective.

“Even in all of his trials, when he hasn’t had the rail and been out wide … he has always had the tendency to want to get in and just look for that rail.

“He is still learning. He is far from the finished product.”

Having ridden him in all three wins, Damien Thornton still felt there is plenty of improvement in the 4yo.

“He is delivering and probably getting even quicker each time he goes around,” said Thornton.

With both Uncommon James and Yoyo Yeezy both unable to win on their racetrack debuts before winning their next three starts, it will be interesting to see the heights Wednesday’s winner can reach, with no doubt connections will be chasing some black type racing in the near future.

Bred and raced by Lavin Park Racing and Breeding, Yoyo Yeezy is the third winner from three to the races for the stakes placed Jetspur mare Pickabee, herself a sister to the Listed winner Emmalene who is in turn the dam of the dual Listed-winning Capitalist gelding King Kapa, who has accepted to contest Saturday’s $1m Magic Millions The Syndicate (1100m) at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

Unfortunately, Pickabee passed away in February 2023 with her final foal being the now 3yo filly Uncommon Daisy (Dundeel), who is currently spelling after finishing second in her mid-December barrier trial.

Yes Yes Yes Has Recently Completed His First Season Gooree Park Stud Where He Stood For $16,500

The sire of 32 Australian winners so far this season including 13 since the start of December alone, Yes Yes Yes stood the recently completed covering season at Gooree Park Stud at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST).

Yes Yes Yes will be represented by three lots at the upcoming Magic Million yearling sale including the Coolmore-consigned Lot 577, the full brother to last season’s G1 ATC Derby (2400m) runner-up Firm Agreement.
