Future History Wins Last Aussie Stakes of 2025

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 31

The Listed VRC Bagot Handicap (2800m) at Flemington on New Year’s Eve was the last stakes race in Australia for 2025 and the cream rose to the top with race favourite Future History (GB) carrying 60kg to a popular victory.

The Ciaron Maher trained eight year-old son of Showcasing has finished the year with a flourish coming into this assignment off a last start win in the Listed ATC Christmas cup at Randwick.

He showed his class under Ethan Brown, pulling out plenty under pressure at the finish to score by three quarters of a length taking his overall record to nine wins and nine placings from 38 starts with prizemoney topping $1.1million.

“It was pretty similar to what we saw in Sydney, when he gets to the front and just gallops out. He has a huge aerobic capacity now that he is of this age and well seasoned,” said stable representative Jack Turnbull.

“Full credit to the Sydney team, he arrived here hard fit and a happy horse.”

A 140,000gns  purchase for Nick Bell / Peter Trainor / Hurworth from the Juddmonte Farms draft at the 2022 Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale, Future History (GB) is the best of two winners from five to race for Likelihood, a half-sister by Mizzen Mast to Group I Hollywood Derby winner Seek Again, Group III winner Treble Jig and stakes-winner Scottish Jig.

His grand-dam Light Jig was a Group I winning daughter of Danehill, so it’s a quality Juddmonte pedigree as you would expect.
