We saw a busy set of trials at Rosehill on Tuesday morning with five heats for juveniles won by some interesting horses including an I Am Invincible filly from a close relation to champion mare More Joyous and a filly by Profiteer that zoomed from last to first.
The quickest of the heats was won by the Annabel and Rob Archibald trained I Am Invincible filly Thyme to Go, who improved sharply on her first trial at the start of the month when she was unplaced and asked for little. Zac Lloyd rode her that day and stayed with her and this time and she was lit up from the gates to lead.
Thyme to Go looked very comfortable all the way and was urged along to stay in front of Knightsbridge, a more seasoned colt that was fifth in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial on debut with nine lengths back to the rest.
A $260,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Yarraman, Thyme to Go was a cheap purchase for a filly with her pedigree being the third foal of Joy at Last, an unraced three-quarter sister-in-blood to champion mare More Joyous with a female family packed with G1 stars.
Profiteer is looking for his first winner and it might be the Bjorn Baker trained filly Profitabelle, who was slow out to settle last and then let down to run over the top of her rivals, winning by half a length.
A $100,000 Inglis Classic purchase, Profitabelle is a half-sister to four winners from an unraced Host (Chi) daughter of stakes-placed Brillanti. Pedigree not exciting, but her turn of foot was!
The third trial to break 55 seconds was won by the Richard and Will Freedman trained Exceed and Excel filly Exelluna, who took improvement from her first trial when third to Warwoven at the start of the month. This time she was super professional and jumped quickly to lead and control going on to win by a length and a half.
Excelluna was a $500,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from Trelawney Stud and comes from one of their best families being from stakes-placed Addison, a half-sister to dual Group I winner Grunt from the family of Cox Plate winner Ocean Park.
Trelawney Stud will offer a So You Think filly from Addison as Lot 250 at Karaka Book 1.
We had a first look at the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Written Tycoon colt Wendell, a handsome dark brown colt that was green and did a bit wrong, but talent not lacking as when he was let go by Regan Bayliss he hit the line when well to win by nearly three lengths.
Also rans to watch from the Chris Waller stable were Lone Piper and Jessanya.
The former was having her second trial and the half-sister to Lady of Camelot was ridden quietly and held together, while the latter is Aeliana’s half-sister and she really warmed up late to finish off well at her first appearance.
A $450,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yulong, Wendell has some really interesting bloodlines being the second foal of an imported unraced half-sister by No Nay Never to Group I Doncaster St Leger winner Rule of Law with a pedigree packed with elite Euro Black Type.
Second winner for the Waterhouse Bott stable was Tagaloa filly Miss Chanel, who was third to Norman’s Cay (second last Saturday to Warwoven) in her first trial and improved off that to lead all the way and win by nearly two legnths.
Also ran to watch was the Ciaron Maher trained Zoustar filly Sumeria, who was given an educational outing to finish fourth. The $2.6million Inglis Easter purchase is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to multiple G1 winner Zougotcha.
A $270,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yulong, Miss Chanel is the third foal of Group III placed Snitzel mare Talented.
