Exciting Invincible Filly Wins in Town

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 10

By champion sire I Am Invincible from Group I winning sprinter Volpe Veloce, lightly raced three year-old filly Lady Verity was a One to Watch when breaking her maiden at Geelong last month and kept up the good  work when saluting at Sandown on Wednesday.

Trained by Matt Laurie and ridden by Jamie Mott, Lady Verity was in a tricky spot bailed up back in the field after turning for home and took a while to slide back and around runners to get clear, but when she did it was game over.

Lady Verity arrived just in time to take the Benchmark 64 event over 1200m by a long neck as favourite and has now had four starts for two wins and two seconds.

“We went from the penthouse to the shithouse very quickly,” said Jamie Mott.

“I thought I would lead on her and if anything wanted to go quick we would let them go, but she didn’t jump and muster that good and then it got messy as a small field can, but I wasn’t that worried as turning for home we only had a few lengths to make up and I was confident she could do that.

“It was good to see her overcome a change in her pattern of racing and she’s a nice filly going places.”

A $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase for M Laurie / P Morgan from the Longwood Thoroughbred Farm draft, Lady Verity runs for Michael Drapac’s Sustainable Thoroughbred Breeding.

She is the second foal and winner from Group I winning Foxwedge mare Volpe Veloce, who won 12 races in a glittering career in NZ and is a sibling to Raposa Rapid and Delago Bolt.

Volpe Veloce was sold this year at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale by Longwood Thoroughbred Farm in foal to I Am Invincible for $1million to Trives Bloodstock. It was her second trip around the Gold Coast sale ring having made $1.9million in 2021 when bought by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA)/Longwood Thoroughbred Farm/Peter Morgan.

She produced a filly foal by I Am Invincible for her new owners last month.
