Haunui Stallions Offer Value

Media Release - Thursday May 31

The 2018 breeding season will see Haunui Farm with a stallion roster that will hold appeal for all New Zealand breeders at exceptional value.

Stalwart of the Haunui Farm stallion roster Iffraaj (GB) (Zafonic), will return to New Zealand at a fee of $25,000 + GST this season.

A proven, International sire, Iffraaj commands a service fee of £40,000 at his Dalham Hall base in the Northern Hemisphere. With a Group One performer in each and every crop to date, Iffraaj has sired Karaka Million winners, Guineas winners, Derby winners, a Filly of the Year, and Weight for Age performers on both sides of the Tasman and was among the top 10 Group One stallions worldwide last year. He's a sire of sires, a Group One broodmare sire and has been among New Zealand's leading sires since his first crop hit the track in 2010.

BelardoJoining Iffraaj for his second season at Haunui in 2018 is Champion 2YO of Europe Belardo (Ire) (Lope De Vega), who will once again stand at a fee of $12,000 + GST.

A dual Group One winner and the only son of Lope De Vega at stud in Australasia, the first of Belardo's elite victories came in the time honoured Dewhurst Stakes, a feature of the English flat racing season and a race that has been won by numerous Champions of their generation including Iffraaj's sire Zafonic and Belardo's grand sire, Shamardal. A G1 performer at 3YO, Belardo was afforded the rare opportunity of a G1 winning colt to race on at fourand added the G1 Lockinge Stakes to his tally and, was a closing second to Champion mare Tepin in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot which saw him named the best male of the Royal Ascot meeting in 2016.

Since announcing Belardo's arrival at Haunui Farm last season, Lope De Vega has gone from strength to strength in both hemispheres. Standing at a fee of €60,000 at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland, he has recently notched his 40thstakes winner – remarkable given he has just five crops of racing age - and in the past twelve months, his Australasian honour roll includes dual Group One winners Vega Magic and Santa Ana Lane, and from just two starters in New Zealand this season, he has produced stakes winning 2YO fillies Spanish Whisper and Rubira.

Belardo's first crop of foals have created an excellent impression in the Northern Hemisphere and with over 70% of his first books of mares immediately related to black type, he has been afforded every opportunity to make his mark.

Mark Chitty says, "We're looking forward to the arrival of Iffraaj and Belardo back to Haunui at the end of July once they've completed their quarantine requirements. Iffraaj is proven, and Belardo is just starting out but with his race track performance, the success of his sireline in Australia through Shamardal and Lope De Vega, and the presence of Danehill in his pedigree, we're confident he won't take long to make his mark."
