Cosmic Force Filly Wins $250,000 Emerging Stars Final at Ballarat

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 6

By under-rated sire Cosmic Force from the famed ‘Discreet’ family promising filly Shystar enjoyed a lucrative pay day on Saturday when taking out the $250,000 Emerging Stars Final (1400m) at Ballarat.

Trained by Phillip Stokes and ridden by Lachlan Neindorf, Shystar broke her maiden last start at Geelong and then took a leap forward here with a tenacious win over the race favourite Royal Flare.

Lachlan Neindorf was able to overcome an outside draw with the speedy filly to claim a valuable win.

“We had another sticky barrier. She hasn’t been a blessed horse this preparation with barriers, but it was a great training performance from Phillip (Stokes) and the whole team as they identified this race which is worth good money.

“She relaxed well and got a couple of cheap sectionals and that allowed her to hang on and win.”

Shystar was a $190,000 MM Adelaide purchase.

Shystar was a $190,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from The Chase for Phillip Stokes Racing/Connolly Bloodstock and has two wins from five starts with prizemoney just shy of $200,000.

Bred by China Horse Club, Shystar is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Why Be Discreet, a winning half-sister to stakes-winners Very Discreet, Forever Discreet and I’m Discreet, the dam of Group II winner Serenely Discreet.

Cosmic Force has 10 entries for Magic Millions 2026 and 11 for Inglis Classic.
