A $1million Magic Millions purchase from Widden Stud, I Am Invincible filly La Basilique cast off maiden status with a tenacious win at Randwick on Friday afternoon in the Yulong colours.

Having her third race start, the Chris Waller trained La Basilique was easy in the market after a second on debut at Kembla and then a last start seventh at Canterbury.
Ridden this time by Tim Clark, La Basilique was given a positive ride from the gates to go up and lead, kicking away after turning for home before fighting on for a neck in in the 1300m maiden.
La Basilique is the third winner from three foals to race from stakes-winning Shamardal mare Vezalay, who was bought by Widden for $1million at the 2019 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale.
The I Am Invincible x Shamardal cross has produced a champion in Imperatriz and Group I winning colt Move to Strike!
La Basilique is also the last foal of Vezalay, who died in 2022, but two of her daughters are now at stud with Night Move (who made $1.25million as a yearling) producing a filly this spring for Hermitage by Wootton Bassett (GB) and Zouphoria producing a filly by Jacquinot for Widden.
