Pedrena Strikes for Mossman in Glenlogan Park Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday May 26

Off the scene for 25 weeks since winning the Group III Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes at Flemington last November, the Mick Price-trained filly Pedrena had no luck when unplaced in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville but she bounced back three weeks later to capture Saturday's Group III Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350) at Doomben.

The race was pushed back an hour while ground staff moved the rail out with concerns on the chopped up ground.

Given a peach of a ride from an inside barrier by Michael Dee, Padrena stuck close to the fence to defeat Invincibella by three-quarter of a length with the well-backed Schism the same distance back in third.

The 4yo daughter of Mossman has been a model of consistency throughout her short career. Her second stakes success advances her record to 6 wins and 3 seconds from 12 starts with earnings of $407,776.

"Despite everything the track felt pretty good overall although it was a bit roughed up on the first corner," Dee told AAP.

"My mare travelled beautifully though and towed herself into the race coming to the home turn.

"Although I was a bit worried the going mightn't be as good near the fence she was happy to be there, so I let her take me where she wanted to go and she showed a great turn of foot."

The Group 1 Tatt's Tiara (1350m) at Doomben on June 23 is the likely goal for Pedrena.

Bred by Esplin Family, Pedrena (pictured as a yearling) was purchased by Mick Price Racing for $60,000 out of the Twin Palms Stud draft at the 2015 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

She is the third foal and second winner out of the imported Awesome Again mare Hansom Cab who is a half-sister to stakes-winning Danzig mare Moments Of Magic the dam of the Grade I Citation Stakes runner-up Zann.

A yearling filly by Stratum out of Hansom Cab was sold by Tartan Fields to Austin Racing for $100,000 at session II of the Easter Yearling Sale.

After missing to Adelaide (IRE) in 2016, Hansom Cab was covered by Press Statement last spring.

After 18 seasons at stud, Mossman has earned an honourable retirement at Vinery Stud in 2018.
