Spywire Adds to Trapeze Artist Spring Success

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 22

Trapeze Artist has had plenty of success this spring with new Group winners Panova and Piggyback and his good form continued at the standalone meeting at Kembla on Saturday with a first up win for talented sprinter Spywire, who has a half-brother headed to Magic Millions 2026.

The highest-priced Trapeze Artist yearling in 2023, Spywire was a $520,000 purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock/Group I Bloodstock from the Widden draft at Magic Millions.

He showed immediate talent winning two of his first three starts to earn a run in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in which he finished third to Storm Boy and closed out his juvenile season with a fourth to Arabian Summer in the Magic Millions National 2YO Classic.

Placed without winning at three, Spywire broke through for his first win this season in August at Doomben before heading for a short break.

Given top weight of 61kg in the 1000m Benchmark 78 event on Saturday, Spywire showed his class when surging through the gloom to win by three-quarters of a length giving Irish jockey Adam Farragher his first win in Australia.

With four wins and five placings from 13 starts and prizemoney in excess of $780,000, Spywire will no doubt be looking to return to the Gold Coast in January for another suitable race.

Bred by Widden in partnership with Robert Anderson, Spywire is the best of three winners from four foals to race from stakes-winning Denman mare Secret Trail.

Widden Stud will offer the current yearling from Secret Trail, a colt from the first crop of Australian Horse of the Year Anamoe, as Lot 781.
