Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 21

First and third in the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes at the start of spring, Shiki and Masvingo resumed their rivalry at the Randwick barrier trials on Friday morning with the rich Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January looming large on the horizon.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Shiki jumped from the outside gate and travelled deep throughout for Tim Clark behind the leaders and when shaken up in the straight let down to win the heat over her stablemate Lumbini with Masvingo a close up third.

Shiki has a half-sister by Ole Kirk to be offered by Riverstone Lodge at Magic Millions 2026 as Lot 405.

Runner-up Lumbini did a good job at her first trial as you would expect of an expensive Russian Revolution that is a full sister to former slick juvenile Russian Conquest, who was second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

All three fillies over the line are Magic Millions eligible.

The colts heat went the way of the Bjorn Baker trained Extreme Choice colt Paradoxium, who was last seen finishing fourth in the Group III ATC Breeders’ Plate. He ran quicker time than the fillies and was doing his best work over the final furlong to beat a pair of colts by Farnan.

Paradoxium is the first foal of Paredo, a half-sister to the dam of Group I ATC The Galaxy winner Private Harry.
