Astute trainer Brad Widdup was a visitor to the Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale in 2024 and he signed for four yearlings with the most expensive being a filly by Western Austalia’s champion sire Playing God and she made a winning debut at Scone on Tuesday.
Racing in the Mulberry Racing colours, Azure Angel has had a good education at the trials and connections were optimistic about her chances in a competitive 1200m maiden.
She was given a patient ride by Christian Reith settling midfield and unleashed a powerful turn of foot in the straight to charge past her rivals and win by more than a length.
Christian Reith said after the race he had spoken with Brad Widdup this morning and he believed the filly would be hard to beat which proved the case.

Azure Angel was a $210,000 MM Perth purchase from Forest View Farm and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Angel’s Impact being the fourth winner from four foals to race from metro winning Hurricane Sky mare Angel Sky.
We don’t see a lot of runners in the Eastern States by Playing God, but there is no denying his statistics.
The Darling View Thoroughbreds based sire runs at 69.5% winner to runner and an impressive 9.3% SW to runner which explains why he has covered 120 plus books of mares for the past four seasons and stands at a fee of $49,500.
