Russian Revolution 2YO Wins $160,000 Max Lees Classic

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 15

The standalone Newcastle meeting on Saturday kicked off with the $160,000 Max Lees Classic (900m) for the juveniles and it had a short priced favourite in Russian Revolution colt Seeiaye, who got the job done in style.

Facing a field of unraced youngsters, the Peter Snowden trained Seeiaye had shown good ability in his two lead up trials and took that good form to race day.

He was able to make good use of barrier one for Josh Parr, mustering speed after being fairly away to hold the fence and lead before kicking clear to win by nearly two lengths in class record time.

Seeiaye was a pinhook winner before he became a racetrack winner having been sourced initially from the Fairhill Farm draft at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale by Musk Creek Farm for $27,500.

Seeiaye was a $65,000 Magic Millions yearling purchase.

They re-offered him at Magic Millions where he was bought by Capri Racing & Syndication Pty Ltd/Peter Snowden for a modest $65,000 and given his Magic Millions eligibility that will be his aim in the immediate future.

“All in all he handled himself well today,” said Peter Snowden.

“He was a touch slow to jump and then natural pace took him right through to where he wanted to be.

“Josh never moved on him until the 300m mark and then he gave another good kick again.

“He’s a Magic Millions horse so that will be in our mind with what we do with him from here on. Whether he has another run now or a little freshen up before a run or two, but we’ll wait until next week to make a decision.”

Josh Parr was well pleased with Seeiaye.

“He made good use of barrier one and showed nice speed to lead and was happy and comfortable to travel from then on,” he said.

“He’s a lovely horse.”

Bred by Reg Kemister, Seeiaye is the second foal and second winner for unraced I Am Invincible mare Blue Blazers, a full sister to Group III winner and sire Super One.

He is the first 2YO winner of the new season for Russian Revolution, who was also trained by Peter Snowden to Group I success before his retirement to Newgate Farm.

Russian Revolution has 26 entries for Magic Millions 2026.
