Ingham Homebred Wins on Debut

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 23
The brilliant all cerise colours of the Ingham family were carried by former smart Fastnet Rock sprinter Stryker and were seen to the fore at Canterbury on Wednesday when carried to victory by one of his offspring.

StrykerThe Ingham family still breed a number of horses and one of those is handsome chestnut two year-old colt Beidi, who was easy in the market when making his debut for the Chris Waller stable, but still put the sword through two very expensive colts in Munich ($750,000 Snitzel colt) and Home Soil ($625,000 Exceed and Excel colt).

Placed at his only previous trial, Tye Angland gave Beidi a good run from gate one and he surged to the line to win the 1100 metre maiden by half a length.

"We've always had a good opinion of him, so I was surprised to see the price he was ($18) when he went to the post," said stable representative Charlie Duckworth.

"The good barrier was a plus and when he peeled out he showed a good turn of foot."

Beidi is a half-brother to Group III winner Sadler's Lake, who was also fourth in the Group I BRC Queensland Derby and is the second winner for Mingshan, an unraced daughter of champion sire Encosta de Lago from the family of Group I winner Shame.

She was bought by Ingham Bloodstock for $750,000 at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Mingshan was covered by another son of Fastnet Rock last spring in Hinchinbrook.
