Staying Prospect Relocates to Australia

Media Release - Tuesday May 22

Black type performer Wee Gilly has changed stables and will continue her career in Victoria.

Wee Gilly - Race ImagesThe sparingly-raced three-year-old has been purchased by OTI Racing with former owner-trainer Bill Thurlow retaining an interest in the daughter of Roc De Cambes.

"She's gone to Archie Alexander and she's in work there and ticking along," the Waverley horseman said.

"She might have a run in late June or early July, she's a good staying filly."

Wee Gilly finished in the money in her first two starts before she stepped up to 2200m on her home track last month to beat the older horses.

She then headed south and came from the back of the field to finish third behind the multiple stakes winner Courte Zarindi in the Listed Warstep Stakes (2000m) at Riccarton.

"It's perfect for her in Melbourne, there was no point keeping her here," Thurlow said.

"Once you get past the Warstep it's lights out for the three-year-olds."

Meanwhile, Thurlow is satisfied with the progress being made by his jumper Tizza Secret who will further his preparation in Thursday's Stu Covell Memorial (4000m).

"I'm happy with him, but he needs the longer distances and very wet tracks to be at his best," he said.

"At this stage, his main early aim is the Manawatu Steeplechase and then we'll make a plan from there."

Tizza Secret has won once over the big fences and last season finished third in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup (3900m) and the Great Northern Steeplechase (6400m) at Ellerslie, but they will both be run at Te Rapa this term.

"I'm just not sure if the sand-based track will suit him, but I guess we might have to find out," Thurlow said. – NZ Racing Desk.
