Raheen Stud Announce Sad Passing of Top Ranked

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 7

Leading Queensland nursery Raheen Stud announced on Friday the sad passing of their exciting young sire Top Ranked (IRE), who was euthanized on Thursday following a brief illness.

An elite racehorse that won the Group I ATC Epsom Handicap in Australia, Top Ranked had covered over 200 mares in his first two seasons at Raheen showing excellent fertility with his first yearlings to be offered at sales in 2026.

2016 - 2025 - Vale, Top Ranked (IRE).

“About five weeks ago he went lame behind and our vet’s advice was to stop covering mares to allow him the chance to rest and recover, but sadly the condition continued to deteriorate,” said Basil Nolan.

“On Thursday, we took the tough decision to put him down with the autopsy revealing an issue with his kidneys.

“We have 20 mares in foal to him and the last mare he covered has also tested in foal.”

A glorious grey that will be sadly missed by all who knew him, Top Ranked won eight of 16 starts and was trained in Australia by Annabel Neasham for Australian Bloodstock.
