Sire Table Shake Up – Carnival Stars Bring Change

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 3

The $10million Golden Eagle and the first day of the Flemington Carnival delivered some big changes to our sire tables as we power through the spring.

The Autumn Sun has had a strong start to the season thanks to a couple of superstars in Autumn Glow, who won both the Group I ATC Epsom Handicap and Golden Eagle, and also his three year-old colt Autumn Boy, winner of the $3million Caulfield Guineas.

A Champion 3YO that was effective from 1400 to 2000m, The Autumn Sun was trained by Chris Waller and it’s probably no coincidence the champion trainer also prepares both of his best offspring.

The Autumn Sun stands at Arrowfield a fee of $66,000,

By legendary sire Redoute’s Choice, The Autumn Sun is from an Aga Khan bred daughter of Galileo and that deep European female family gives him the ability to produce these types of horses capable of measuring up in the very best races at a mile and more.

Where Autumn Glow and Autumn Boy end up in the autumn is going to be very interesting….. talk about the world being their oyster!

On the second season sire front, Dubawi’s 2020 European Horse of the Year Ghaiyyath (IRE) is sitting at the top of the table after Observer won the Victoria Derby.

Observer is no Robinson Crusoe as Ghaiyyath has had two more stakes-winners here this spring in Yum and Freedom Flame which would be in keeping with what you might expect for a horse of his profile.

Ghaiyyath (IRE) did not shuttle in 2025.

Sadly, he did not shuttle back to Australia this year.

Ole Kirk sits in second with G1 Thousand Guineas winner Ole Dancer his star and this dual G1 winning (Caulfield Guineas, Golden Rose) son of Written Tycoon is shaping as an important stallion given his ability to get the precocious horses the commercial market demands, but also something a bit more substantial.

Completely free of Danehill blood, Ole Kirk would be one of the easiest of all the commercial stallions to mate and has that phenomenal female family through Helsinge, which is likely to play a major role in our breeding industry for a very long time into the future.
